Final Metals Piece

So, my final metals assignment/project was to make either a belt buckle or pendant using riveting. I decided on a pendant because I would never wear a belt buckle.

Here is my in process work.

And here is the finished product. Though I still have a bit of polishing/sanding left to do. It is all brass plate with brass rivets. But I did copper plate some sections so there is a color change in the metal that is pretty fun.

Portrait

So, we are doing some life drawing stuff for our final assignment in my drawing class. We have a student model for us and we have to draw the neck up. This is my final so far as a work in progress. I feel like there are a lot of things I still want to fix/tweak and it is not close to done yet. But I am having a lot of fun drawing this and I am really liking how it is turning out.

Drawing and ring

I finished my color complimentary drawing but forgot to take a finished picture of it. So here is another in process picture that is at least further along than the last one.

I also finished my ring (for the most part) I think there are still some small things that I want to polish up and refine but I am pretty well pleased with it. I am intending to take another more advanced metals class next semester. Pretty excited about it.

I am also going to be taking a sort of professional prep course next semester. Basically a prep course for entering the professional world of studio arts. I hope it is helpful and not a throw away course.

So colorful

Worked some more on my full color complimentary drawing today. It is due on Thursday of next week. One day after my ring is due. I hope I can get it all done in time. I am sort of anxious about it. Here are some in process pictures. A lot of it is unfinished color blocking. I still have a lot of detail work and refining of forms to do.

The paper I am using is wonderful. The color blend really well on it and it picks up the chalk pastels beautifully. I guess for a 5 dollar piece of pastel paper it better be awesome.

Silver ring

So, our first assignment in my metals/jewelry making class is a sweat soldered ring. I have some in process pictures below. I still need to clean it up, file rough edges, apply my sweat solder pieces and polish it up. But I am pretty excited about it.

Experimentation

So, I got a water soluble graphite stick and what seems to be an aquaboard to test out from work. And here is the test. I don't know that I was meant to test them on each other, but I figured it might be neat.

You can still erase the grays and black back to the white of the board because it is graphite, and if you re-wet it you can easily rework it into something else. I am kind of a fan.

Blue!

Finished my monochromatic drawing yesterday. It is due tomorrow so I am glad I am not doing any all nighters to get it done. It is very....blue.

Our next drawing is a full color drawing, so I get to use ALL of my colored pencils, not just three of them. Joy!

Hooray!

So, one of the pieces I submitted to the gallery show was accepted. It is my stipple drawing from last semester. Cool stuff!

Monochromatic drawing

So, we are working on a monochromatic drawing in my drawing class right now and I am enjoying it pretty well. It is nice to work with color as it is not something I have done a lot of. Here are some images of my preliminary color scales and color study, and then a few of my final drawing as a work in progress.

I am also submitting two of my pieces to hopefully be chosen for a juried show at the Memorial Union. LINK for info!! I don't really have high expectations for anything to be accepted, but it doesn't hurt anything to try. Except my wallet because framing stuff is PRICEY! Also, just as an FYI, don't buy your plexiglass at Hobby Lobby. Lowe's is a third of the price.

Finished!

My finished realistic drawing. Due in 4 hours. Goodnight.

I really need a big scanner

I was reminded that I have not updated this in a while and so here we are. All of my classes this semester so far are going really well. In my drawing class we finished our cross contour line drawing and we have a trompe l'oeil due next week. It means to trick the eye and basically the drawing has to be as realistic as possible. Plus we are starting a monochromatic drawing that I am really excited about. Color pencil is fun to work with.

Here are some images of my cross contour line drawing. I really wish I had a giant scanner to do it justice. My camera phone just can't do it. Oh well.

And now here I have what I have to draw for my trompe l'oeil and then what I have so far for my drawing. Again, lack of proper scanner.

The string grid was to help me accurately place the objects in my drawing.

My computer art and photography classes are done at the end of next week and then I start my metals studio and textiles studio. I rather enjoy the change up mid semester. Prevents boredom with a studio style I might dislike.

Cheers.

Here we go again

Two weeks into the new school year. I am in photography, computer art, intermediate drawing, and art history. I am also peer mentoring for a beginning drawing class. Plus work. Pretty full schedule. I like my classes pretty well so far. I guess I will have to wait and see how well I am going to do in any of them. But as a little taste. Here is one of my assignments for my computer art class. We had to alter an old photograph.

Voila.

Doldrums

Not a lot happening for me in the summer apart from work so please enjoy this video that I found to be both well executed and also beautiful. Made by Ryan Woodward.

Drawing class

I may have changed my mind from Graphic Design to actually going into Studio Arts. I just don't know how I feel about being in front of a computer screen all the time. Plus, I love everything about the fine arts. I just...have to go with what I love. Here are the two final drawings I had for my drawing class. Again...they are photos so the quality is not the best.

First up is my stipple drawing that took me about 50 hours to complete. It was worth it if I do say so myself.

Next up is my color harmony drawing. We had to make a sort of abstract collage from magazine cutouts and then duplicate the magazine collage using colored pencil on a separate sheet. I am also really happy with how this turned out.

Top one is magazine cutout, bottom is the colored pencil.

Ink is permanent and thus...scary

We are doing ink drawings in my Design 131 class (which is my drawing class) and we had the option of using, hatching, cross hatching or stippling for our final drawing. I chose stipple because I think it looks nicer. Well, it takes forever to stipple. FOREVER. Those who chose stipple had the option of doing a smaller drawing for their final. 9x12 instead of 12x16. Guess who chose to still do 12x16? Yeah. So, I have my work cut out for me. It is due next Friday and I am frantically trying to get it done. Here are some works in progress shots that I just took with my phone, so not the greatest quality.
